Please do not leave the marked hiking trails – for safety reasons and for nature’s sake.
The chosen hiking trails represent only a small excerpt of all possibilities. The local hiking map is available at the hotel reception.
Barbian, 3 Kirchen – and back:
Take a left turn in front of the guesthouse and walk to the Palwitthöfen. From here, go in the direction of the sports grounds and pass the sawmill. Leave the asphalted road and walk along the forest road until you come to 3 Kirchen. (Gasthof Messnerhof or Bad Dreikirchen = eating possibility). Walk back via a beautiful forest path (number 8), pass the Wieserhof and return to the asphalted road, from where you walk back to the guesthouse. Walking time: approx. 2.5 hours.
Barbian waterfall
Walk in the direction of Barbian, passing the village square, and then towards Saubach/Ritten. When you reach ’Haus Urban’, follow the blue and white marking on the asphalted road (short and steep ascent), then turn left and walk toward the sharp bend. From here, follow the signs to the waterfall. Walking time / one way: approx. 1.5 hours. Return journey to Barbian, approx. 1 hours. Shopping possibilities until 12 noon and from 3 p.m.
Barbain, Saubach, Kollmann, Barbian
Walk into the village then keep in the direction of Saubach, along the asphalted road. Eating possibility at the Saubacherhof (approx. 1 hour). Then walk to the Pennhof. Here begins the descent to Kollmann (good shoes required / short but steep descent). Follow path number 8, pass the Wetterkreuz, the Liebenrein farmhouses and the Leitner. When you reach the sharp bend, walk straight on into the direction of the Reatlhof, where you could stop and have a break. Once you are again on your way, pass the butcher’s shop and then cross the bridge on your left. From here, follow the red and white marking and ascent to the Schinter, Marell and Wohlauf farmhouses. Walk in the direction of Stich and Fühaufhof. Walking time: approx. 3.5 hours. (Eating possibilties Kollmann, at the Kreuzwirt or in Castle Friedburg.)
Barbian, waterfall, 3 Kirchen
Follow the road description as above (Barbian waterfall). From here, take the upper waterfall (good shoes and hiking ability required) and follow at the 1st exit the signposts to 3 Kirchen. On the return journey, walk along the forest path number 8 A near Öttel, then path number 8 B in the direciton of Barbian. When you reach the connecting road to Barbian/Villanders, walk back to the Kircher Sepp. If you would like to take the short cut near Öttel (beautiful family house in the midst of meadows), walk towards the sports grounds and follow the asphalted road for about 150 meters, then marking number 8 A or in the direction of Barbian. From the Fössinger, you can walk back to the Kircher Sepp.
Barbian, Sauders, Winterle and back.
Start from the hotel in the direction of Villanders. Just behind the Kreuzer farmhouses, you take the turn to Sauders (path number 17, short but steep descent). Eating possibility at the Winklerhof. Return journey along the asphalted road. Than in the direction of the Winterlehof and back to the guesthouse.
Barbian, Sauders, St. Valentin, Klausen
Huber Kreuz - Oberhorn- Unterhorn –Huber Kreuz
Take your car to the Huber Kreuz car park, which is partly tarmacked. Driving time: approx. 30 minutes. From here, walk in the direction of Pian, Nigl Alm, Oberhorn. Follow path number 3 and 4 to the Oberhorn (eating possibility). Approx. 2.5 hours. The last part of the way if very steep (ascent). Then walk downhill to the Unterhorn (approx. 30 minutes). Eating possiblities at the Unterhornhaus or the Feltun Hut. On your return journey, take path number O, where you pass the dwarf pine oil distillery.
Total walking time: approx. 4 to 5 hours.
Barbian – Huberkreuz – Unterhorn
From Barbian, follow the signposts to 3 Kirchen, then to Briol – always marking number 4 – until you reach the Huber Kreuz car park. (Walking time on foot to the Huber Kreuz – approx. 3 hours.) Then follow the path in the direciton of Pian / take the forest road to your left – number 3 A until you come to the Pennleger. Here begins a short, but steep ascent to the Unterhornhaus.
Total walking time: approx. 5 hours.
Barbian - Gasser Hut – Stöffel Hut
Take your car and drive in the direction of Villanders (turn left at the sawmill). Pass Hotel Sambergerhof until you come to the Gasser Hut (approx. 30 minutes by car). From here, follow the signposts and walk in the direction of the Stöffel Hut. A beautiful hiking trip with magnificent panoramic views. Walking time from car park to Stöffel Hut: approx. 1.5 hours (one journey).
Gasser Hut – Rinderplatz –Gasser Hut
Just below the Gasser Hut, near the reservoir, starts the hiking path along the irrigation channels and runs in the direction of the Rinderplatz. There are two paths: the long route or the short one. Both lead you to the Rinderplatz (eating possibility). Walking time for long route: maximum 1.5 hours.
Gasser Hut – Oberhorn - Rittner Horn
Park your car at the Gasser Hut and walk in the direction of the Plun Hut, passing the ’Moar’. Then follow the signs to the Gasteiger Sattl and the Rittner Horn. Once you pass the ‘Merlboden’, you follow a steep path towards the Oberhorn Haus. Gasser Hut – Oberhornhaus: approximately 2.5 Hours.
Gasser Hut –Latzfons Kreuz
Drive with your car to the Gasser Hut. From here, walk on the slightly ascending path to the Stöffel Hut (with restaurant) and from here to the Latzfons Kreuz (also restaurant). Easy hiking tour. Total walking time: approx. 7 - 8 hours. Wonderful panoramic views.
Tuff Alm at the Völs Pond
Drive with your car in the direction of Völs. When you reach Hotel Völser Hof, take a turn onto the small path, which will lead you to the car park. Near the car park begins the walking path to the Tuff Alm. Walking time: approx. 1 hour. The Alpine farmhouse is an excellent place for younger children. Little touch-animal zoo. Ideal for every age group.
Brixen - Plose- Ochsenalm and back
Drive with your car to Brixen. When you come to the first roundabout, take a right turn and drive across the bridge. At the second roundabout, take another right turn; and at the third roundabout, drive straight on and follow the signs for St. Andrä or ‘Kabinenbahn’. Take the lift to the mountain terminal (possible from mid July) or take your own car. Follow the signposts for the Ochsenalm, which is also called the ’Brixen Höhenweg’. Beautiful and easy hiking trip. Total walking time: approx. 4 hours.
Plose - Rossalm and back
From the mountain terminal, follow the wide forest road until you reach the Rossalm. Easy hiking tour. Total walking time: approx. 2.5 hours.
Klausen – Feldthurns – Klausen Hut
Drive to Feldthurns, and from there to Garn. This is you starting point for the hiking trip to the Klausen Hut. Easy, party steep ascent to the hut. Total walking time: approx. 3 hours. If you like, you can walk on to the Latzfons Kreuz. Steep but exciting ascent. You need to add approx. 1 to 1.5 hours to the trip to the Latzfons Kreuz.

Jenesien – Langfenn – Jenesien
Lajen - Gnoll Hof – Lajen
Seiser Alm – Saltria - Williams Hut
St. Ulrich – Raschötz - Brogeles Alm St. Ulrich
Völs Pond - Tuff Alm - Hofer Alpl – Ums – Völs Pond car park
Drive to Waidbruck. From here, take the direciton of Seis. Shortly before you come to Völs, take the turn at Gasthof Völser Hof to the pond. Here starts the hiking trip in the direction of the Tuff Alm and then to the Hofer Alpl, Ums (path number 3, then follow the ‘U’ until you see marking number 2). Back to the Völs Pond car park. Total walking time: approx. 4 hours (part of the tour is very shady).
Arnika Hut, ’Hexenbänke’ (witches’ benches) on the Kompatsch mountain:
Take the new circular cable railway from Seis to the Alpine farmhouse (Alm). Walk in the direction of the mountain terminal, then to the Fillnkreuz, the ’Hexenbänke’ and the Arnika Hut (with restaurant). From here, walk to the Puflatsch Hut and back to the car park. If you like, you could take the lift in order to short-cut the steep ascent (approx. 30 minutes) to the mountain terminal. Once you reach the Arnika Hut, there is the possibility to return directly to the mountain terminal. Total walking time: approx. 4 hours; with short-cut at the Arnika Hut: approx. 2 hours. Wonderful hiking trip with views into the Eisach and Val Gardena valleys.
Kastelruth – Marinzen and back
Drive to Waidbruck, then in the direction of Kastelruth and the Marinzenlift facility. Here begins a steep awscent to the Marinzen Hut (animal-touch zoo). If you like, you could do this part of the hiking tour, using the lift facility instead. Once you arrive in Marinzen, walk to the Jausenstation Schafstall (snack bar / restaurant) and back to the car park. If you decide to use the cable railway, your total walking time is approx. 1.5 hours.
Zanser Alm- Dusler Alm- Gschnagenhardtalm – Glatsch Alm - Zanser Alm
Drive to Klausen and from there take the turn into the Villnöss Valley. Drive to the back corner of the Zanser Alm (drive: approx. 1 hour). From here, stay on the right hand side and walk to the Dusler Alm (restaurant). Then turn in the direction of the Gschnagenhardalm (beautiful Alpine meadows with possibilities for kids to play). From here, walk to the Old Gschnagenhardalm and a short stretch along the Adolf Munkel Weg until you come to the Glatschalm. Return journey to the car park. Walking time: approx. 4 – 5 hours. Breath-taking hiking trip at the foot of the Geisler Peaks.
Zanser Alm – Gampenalm – Schlütter Hut
From the car park, turn right onto the forest road and walk toward the Gampenalm and then on to the Schlütter Hut. Walking time: approx. 2 hours. If you like, you could walk on to the Peitler Kofel (another 2 hours). Beautiful, but strenuous hiking trip. Total walking time to the Schlütter Hut and Back: approx. 3.5 hours. If you decide to walk to the Peitler Kofel (walking experience necessary), you need to calculate a total walking time of about 5 to 6 hours.
Seiser Alm – Tierseralpl – Malknecht Hut
Drive to Waidbruck and Seis. Use the cable-car and then the Panorama Lift and follow the signposts for the Tirser Alpl. You will have the opportunity to watch marmots. Then, the steep path with many sharp bends runs up the mountains. You will need approximately 1.5 hours for the ascent. Then you can walk downhill to the refuge hut and further to the Mahrknecht Hut. Return journey to the mountain terminal of the Panorama Lift. Walking time with use of cable-car from Kompatsch: approx. 4 hours.
To the Schlernhäuser (Schlern farmhouses)
Drive as described above. Use the Panorama Lift and hike to the Tierser Alpl. Follow the signposts in the direction of the Schlernhäuser und return via the tourist path number 1, which passes the Saltner Hut and the Laurin Hut and leads you down to the mountain terminal of the Panorama Lift. Walking time: approx. 8 hours.
